JEFFERSON, Ga. — Devan Chemicals, a Belgian-based supplier of flame-retardant chemicals, is targeting the U.S. mattress market with a line of environmentally friendly products.
Devan's new Eco-flam series of products represents a significant advancement in the technology of flame-retardant products for textile and polymer applications, the company said.
The products are being marketed in the United States by Dr. Frank Calogero, Devan's technical and marketing manager, who is based in Jefferson.
The chemistry of the new line is widely accepted in Europe and has replaced other types of FR chemistries that are no longer acceptable in Europe for ecological reasons, according to the company.
Eco-flam products are halogen- and antimony-free flame retardants for application on mattress ticking, upholstery, protective clothing, carpets, wall coverings, black-out curtains, hook and loop products, and nonwoven fabrics.
All Eco-flam products are registered in Europe for health and safety and are efficient over a wide range of fiber types, fabrics and application techniques. The products can be applied by foam, padding or paste, according to the company.
Calogero can be reached at (706) 367-1380.
Devan is being assisted in its U.S. marketing efforts by Norman Cohen, a Charlotte, N.C.-based international marketing consultant. His phone number is (704) 643-0300.
