Some hotels cut rates
By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, January 25, 2004
High Point — A handful of hotels have agreed to trim rates for the April market, a trend the International Home Furnishings Market Authority hopes will begin to quell complaints about price gouging.
Tammy Covington, Market Authority operations director, said nine hotels have agreed to cut rates at least 5% from October 2003. A few plan reductions as high as 15%, and she believes more will hop on the rate-reduction bandwagon.
Many other hotels have reduced their minimum-stay requirements and altered policies on cancellations and refunds, she said.
Hotels that agree to offer rates below their October market prices have the Market Authority's logo next to their name on the group's Web site, www.highpointmarket.org.
The site features a searchable database of more than 100 hotels in High Point, Winston-Salem, Greensboro, Burlington, Thomasville and Archdale. Reservations for most properties can be made on the site.
