LONG ISLAND CITY , N.Y. — LONG ISLAND CITY , N.Y. — The honors keep rolling in for 1-800-Mattress founder Napoleon Barragan and his company.
Barragan recently was part of the halftime entertainment at a New York Knicks basketball game at Madison Square Garden. He was among a group of honorees singled out by the Better Business Bureau's Latino Executives of New York tribute. He and the others stepped out onto the famous hardwood at the Garden to accept their awards.
And 1-800-Mattress, based here, was recently named Corporation of the Year by the Long Island Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.
New York Attorney General Eliot Spitzer personally congratulated Barragan and 1-800-Mattress. "Your outstanding commitment and dedication are certainly deserving of this recognition," Spitzer wrote in a letter to Barragan. "You can take great pride in your efforts to ensure the quality of your product and satisfaction of your customers. Without question, your hard work and determination have made your business the success that it is today."
Barragan, who has received numerous awards in his career, said most of the honors stem from his company's good name and reputation for good practices and good service.
"The main reason for most of these awards," he said, "is that we have a good brand. And we have a good brand because of the good service that we provide."
