Same-day delivery pays off

Morristown, N.J. — Morristown, N.J.— Same-day service is delivering benefits to Mealey's Furniture, according to the retailer's owners.
A few months ago, the three-store chain rolled out same-day delivery seven days a week on purchases made before 3 p.m., and the policy is believed to have helped push same-store sales volume up 10%.
Dan Mealey, an owner of the family-run company, said the program sets Mealey's apart from the crowd in an already-saturated South New Jersey market, where it opened its latest store.
(He said he has counted 390 furniture and bedding competitors in the area, including such heavy hitters as Raymour & Flanigan, Seaman's, Levitz and Thomasville Home Furnishings.)
Mealey's allows customers to choose same-day or any day of the week for their deliveries
And the retailer is concerned enough about its in-stock position that it will remove items from the showroom floor during the night to prevent overselling the next day, he said.
