Show me the money!

By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, April 18, 2004

Pent-up demand for furniture and its ever-imminent release has been a steady mantra for this industry as it seeks to reclaim its share of consumers' disposable income. Manufacturers are preparing for that time this market with safe design bets and tie-ins with well-known brands, institutions and celebrities. But this spring's market arrives with concerns — uncertainty over the outcome of an antidumping petition's effect on pricing and service, consumer hesitation in an election year, and global issues like the Iraq war's aftermath and terrorism — that make it hard to predict when the demand dam will break.
