Tyndall Creek provides rockers for fund-raiser

CHARLESTON, S.C. — Tyndall Creek's rocking chairs were a key component in a fund-raising event for the new tennis center at the College of Charleston here.
Angelo Anastopoulo, director of tennis at the College of Charleston, came up with the idea of using Tyndall Creek rockers in the fund-raiser. He arranged for 110 Tyndall Creek rockers to be placed in strategic locations around the tennis center. At the fund-raising gala, more than 400 people, including Charleston's mayor and other dignitaries, were given the opportunity to purchase a rocking chair for a donation to the center.
Each rocker was then outfitted with a commemorative plaque in the donor's name.
The College of Charleston has nine tennis courts and a 3,000-square-foot clubhouse. A two-tiered terrace overlooks the courts.
"We wanted to make the fund-raiser as unique as our center," said Anastopoulo. "Instead of simply giving a check, our patrons really enjoyed the idea of contributing a useful and beautiful rocking chair to be enjoyed at the facility for years to come."
Anatopoulo said he chose the rocking chairs to create "a low-country feel in our center. There is no better symbol than a rocking chair. We wanted to stay away from the institutional feel of bleachers or stands."
Tyndall Creek shared in the spirit of the event by making its own donation of six rocking chairs to the center.
"Coastal communities have always been a mainstay of our business, and it is our pleasure to give back to the communities that give so much to us," said Dave Witner, national sales manager for Tyndall Creek.
In addition to rockers, Tyndall Creek, based in Wilmington, N.C., produces benches, bar stools and outdoor furniture.
