IFDA sets conference for October market

By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, April 18, 2004

The International Furnishings and Design Assn. is bringing something big to the October market — its annual conference.

IFDA's 2004 Forum & Conference, with the theme "Designing Business for a Global Market," will coincide with the latter half of market, with a welcome reception Monday, Oct. 18, and a program of panels and speakers the next two days.

It's the first time the 2,000-member organization has slated its conference to coincide with market.

"By holding this conference in conjunction with the High Point market, IFDA becomes a catalyst for program discussions on topics relevant to the future of our industry," said Constance Blair, 2004 IFDA president. "Also, IFDA members who may have never attended a major market can experience the unique excitement of High Point, as well as gain opportunities for business and professional growth."

The conference program will take place at the Grandover Resort & Conference Center. The event's theme reflects the worldwide scope of today's home furnishings industry and focuses on design and business aspects that are important for IFDA members and other High Point market visitors who might wish to attend the program sessions.

Tuesday, Oct. 19, will be Design Focus Day, with speakers and panels on trends affecting product and interior design. Wednesday will be Business Focus Day, with a program that includes a panel on import and export trade issues.

Early conference participants may attend a Designer Luncheon on Saturday, Oct. 16, jointly sponsored by IFDA's Carolinas Chapter and the International Home Furnishings Center. And to help IFDA members effectively cover the market, a Sunday morning Orientation Breakfast is planned at the 200 Steele St. complex, where IFDA has a hospitality space.

IFDA's Educational Foundation is developing the conference program. Its chairman is Bonnie Peterson, the foundation's director of marketing and communications. Dawn Brinson, chairman of local events, is assisting her, as is Nancy High, an IFDA member and longtime former furniture industry executive who is chairing the speaker/panel committee.

Shirley Ebert of the Georgia Chapter is coordinating sponsorship solicitation. Also serving on the conference committee are Claire Coleman, New York Chapter; Lee Coggin, Georgia Chapter; Joan Croft, Northern California; Gaye Outlaw, Carolinas; and Nancy Kloehn, North Central.

More information about IFDA is available on its Web site at www.ifda.com or the IFDA Educational Foundation site at www.ifdaef.org.
