What is the greatest issue facing the bedding industry?
Flammability.
If you could change one thing in the bedding industry, what would it be?
Warranties.
What has been the biggest change you've seen in the bedding industry in the past year?
The continued upward movement of price points.
What are your key business goals for 2004?
To continue to grow Therapedic's market share, over and above the industry's growth rate.
What is the last good business book you've read and what did you learn from it?
"Powerful Inspirations" by Kathy Ireland. It allowed me to remember that it's not only about winning or losing in business — it's important that you conduct yourself with dignity and pride, regardless if you've won or lost the game.
What are your pet peeves about the bedding industry?
I have no pet peeves, but my wife and I did just get a pet fish.
What's something about the bedding industry that most people outside the industry don't know or appreciate?
The tremendous level of consumer satisfaction that our product enjoys once it is placed in the home.
What are the most important qualities someone needs in order to achieve long-term success in the bedding industry?
I am not sure that someone needs this quality to succeed, because I have seen a few succeed who were totally bereft of it, but I'd say long-term success is predicated on honesty and integrity.
