4D expands casual dining
Thomas Russell -- Furniture Today, April 18, 2004
HIGH POINT — 4D Concepts, an importer of storage and entertainment furniture, is expanding its presence in casual dining.
The company, based in Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., introduced four casual dining sets at the October High Point market and is unveiling two more this market. The company is showing at 220 Elm, space 104.
The focus of the seven-year-old company remains storage units such as bookcases, pantries and chests, which together account for about 40% of its estimated $10 million in annual sales. Entertainment furniture makes up about 25% of sales.
4D Concepts got into casual dining in response to dealer requests, said co-owner Jeff Riegsecker.
"Basically, we just go where our customers want us," said co-owner Laura Stephenson. "We see we can make some money in casual dining."
The sets introduced in October included two in solid pine, one in metal and another in wicker, retailing from $99 to $299.
Riegsecker believes casual dining will reach a quarter of total sales by the end of 2004. He said the aim is to better serve current dealers rather than attract new accounts.
The company's entertainment centers retail at about $199 and its storage pieces retail between $99 and $199. 4D Concepts also is dabbling in upholstery, Riegsecker said, with the category making up about 2% of sales.
