Third show setting up in Las Vegas
By Larry Thomas -- Furniture Today, April 18, 2004
LAS VEGAS — LAS VEGAS — A Louisville, Ky., trade show developer is planning another furniture show here — the second such event that is hoping to piggyback on the World Market Center's scheduled debut in July 2005.
The newest show, scheduled for the Sands Convention Center, could occupy as much as 500,000 square feet of temporary exhibit space.
It will be produced by Triad Expositions, which is not affiliated with either the World Market Center or Bentley International Group, the firm that organized the inaugural International Furniture & Accessories Marketplace in February.
The Triad Expositions event, officially known at The Las Vegas Furniture Show, is scheduled for July 19-21, 2005. The starting date is one day after the start of the first furniture market at the World Market Center, which is under construction.
"Having as many manufacturers showing as possible helps the buyer make more cost-effective use of his time" said Triad President Stephan Phelps. "Our show will offer yet another venue to shop for furniture."
Phelps said manufacturers already have made commitments for about 102,000 square feet of the 330,000 square feet of available space.
If that block sells out — as Phelps believes it will — he has an option for another 200,000 square feet.
"In over 25 years in this business, I have never seen such a positive early response to an event," he said.
Phelps, who will be in High Point this week recruiting tenants, said the names of exhibitors will be announced later.
He said he believes his show would be complementary to the World Market Center, which will have about 1.3 million square feet of permanent showroom space for its first show.
"The more companies we can bring to Vegas, the better," he said. "I think that will help everybody."
Shane O'Sheeran, manager of the International Furniture & Accessories Marketplace, said his 2005 event also is scheduled for July 19-21, at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
O'Sheeran said his show, which could occupy as much as 750,000 square feet of exhibit space, will include shuttle service between the Convention Center and the World Market Center.
