WMC sets construction symposium

LAS VEGAS — World Market Center officials will host a Tenant Construction Symposium May 5 to give its exhibitors information and points of contact they'll need to build out their showrooms for the first furniture market in July 2005.
The six-hour symposium will be at the Venetian Hotel and Casino on the Las Vegas strip and will follow a WMC advisory board meeting. A tenant reception at the hotel the day before the construction meeting will feature entertainment and cuisine from around the world — tying to the global theme of the new home furnishings market.
The WMC has mailed a tenant handbook to all 230 exhibitors in the first-phase, 1.3 million-square-foot building under construction near downtown.
The handbook outlines design criteria, tenant improvement guidelines and other details
Exhibitors will meet with the project's developers, architects, general contractor and other members of the design/build team.
WMC General Manager Dave Palmer called the program "one of the most meaningful experiences we can offer to our exhibitors at this point in time." While some companies are good at building out showrooms, he said, others have never had to do it before from scratch.
Building officials hope to motivate tenants to used good design in their showrooms, he said.
About 250 tenant representatives from about two thirds of the WMC's tenant base are expected to attend. During the event, WMC will run bus tours to the construction site.
"It's hard to get the magnitude until you're standing there," Palmer said.
