Dongguan Furniture Fair postpones March event
By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, January 18, 2004
DONGGUAN, China — The International Furniture Fair of Dongguan has postponed its next show, originally scheduled for March 18-22, and has not set a new date.
The move, according to information on the show's Web site, (www.iffd.com.cn), is necessary because exhibitors are spending a large amount of time dealing with the U.S. antidumping petition targeting wood bedroom furniture from China. The petition was filed last fall by the 27-member American Furniture Manufacturers Committee for Legal Trade.
Last month, the U.S. Department of Commerce initiated an investigation in response to the petition, and on Jan. 9, the U.S. International Trade Commission found reasonable indication that Chinese-made wood bedroom imports had injured U.S. manufacturers.
According to the Web site, most exhibitors at the export-oriented Dongguan show sell goods for the U.S. market, and 80% are preparing for a DOC investigation. The timing of the next show will depend upon how the investigation develops.
