Ligo warehouse grows

MOKENA, Ill. — An expanded distribution center here is helping Ligo Products manage its expansion into bedroom and occasional products.
In August, the importer completed a 100,000-square-foot addition to its existing 250,000-square-foot building in this community about 35 miles south of downtown Chicago.
The expansion adds 12 dock doors, bringing the total 36. A 30-foot ceiling height helps accommodate the storage of bedroom suites.
"This actually came about due to our entering into the bedroom category," said Dan Angus, Ligo's senior vice president of sales and marketing. "The cubes you need to distribute and store bedroom furniture are huge, so we had to add on to the building to facilitate that. It also will help in the additional category of occasional."
The company introduced master bedrooms in October 2002 and now has nine solid-wood groups at $1,499 to $2,999 retail. It introduced an expanded occasional line this past October.
With the additional warehouse and distribution space, the company can now store between $6 million and $8 million in inventory, up from about $4 million previously. That allows the company the flexibility it needs to serve both large and small retailers alike in all 50 states, Angus said.
"It's all centered around the additional availability of ease of movement of bedroom, casual dining and, of course, occasional," he said.
