Armen Art buys High Point's Old Courthouse

HIGH POINT — Armen Art, an importer of Italian furniture, has purchased the Old Courthouse Building in downtown High Point and plans to show its Madison House Furniture line there at the April market.
The 16,800-square-foot building at Main Street and Green Drive, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, has been used as showroom space for many years. It previously was owned by MAB Inc.
Jim Dumbroski, vice president of sales for Armen Art and Madison House, said Madison House will use the entire first floor — slightly more than 5,000 square feet — for its showroom. The company hopes to lease the remainder of the building for other showrooms.
"Our direct container program has really taken off and we need the extra space to properly display our growing product line," Dumbroski said. "This represents a significant step in our growth strategy."
Madison House, which specializes in contemporary marble and travertine furniture, had been showing in the Hamilton Square complex.
The Old Courthouse, built in the 1930s, includes a mahogany-paneled room that once was a judge's chambers. It will now serve as an elegant dining room for Madison House customers, Dumbroski said.
Madison House is the only line that California-based Armen Art shows in High Point.
