Williams joins Universal

HIGH POINT — Case goods resource Universal Furniture has appointed Matthew Williams to the newly created position of vice president, occasional merchandising.
He will be responsible for the design, development and business management of occasional table, wall system and home office products. He reports to Stephen Giles, vice president of merchandising.
Williams previously was vice president of design at Maitland-Smith, in charge of product development and sourcing for both the high-end accent and occasional resource and its sister company, LaBarge. He also has worked at Alpha Enterprises and Rubbermaid Seasonal Products.
Williams said Universal parent Lacquer Craft is finishing construction of a factory in Shanghai, China, to make and inventory occasional product, reducing lead times on orders.
