GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Dan Henslee has retired as president and chief operating officer of Hekman Furniture after 32 years with the case goods manufacturer and importer.
He will remain with the company to assist in the search for his successor.
"Henslee has been instrumental in the growth of the company and the development of Hekman's consumer brand name," said Buzz Miller, president and chief executive officer of Hekman's parent, Howard Miller. "His vision has been key to the success of the company, and he will be greatly missed. We wish him all the best in his retirement."
Hekman quadrupled in size under Henslee's leadership, according to the company, expanding from its manufacturing base in western Michigan to add the Woodmark Upholstery operation in High Point and another Hekman facility in Lexington, N.C.
Henslee, 63, joined Hekman in the sales department in 1972 and became director of sales and merchandising in 1979. In 1983, the same year Howard Miller purchased Hekman, Henslee was named vice president of marketing. He was promoted to president and chief operating officer in 1989.
