Hayworth Roll closes
By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, January 4, 2004
HIGH POINT — Veneer panel and drawer front supplier Hayworth Roll and Panel Co. here has closed after nearly a century in business.
The company said in late November it would close in mid December if it did not find a buyer. Although several prospects emerged, no deal materialized in time to save the operation and its 75 jobs. Several workers remained on hand for a short time to complete orders.
Chief Executive Officer Harry Watt said another potential buyer had stepped forward, noting that a deal may occur by mid January. He declined to offer specifics. Barring a sale, the company will liquidate remaining inventory, which includes about $1 million in veneers and $2 million in equipment.
Hayworth, which served mid to high-end residential and contract furniture makers, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection Oct. 29, citing global competition and tough economic conditions.
