AWFS moving to Vegas

COMMERCE, Calif. — The Assn. of Woodworking & Finishings Suppliers is moving its biennial trade show to Las Vegas, with the next event set for July 2005.
The AWFS Fair began in Los Angeles in 1957 and has been held in Anaheim, Calif., since 1987. In recent years, it has averaged 27,500 participants and 760 exhibiting companies.
Both numbers should grow when the show moves to the Las Vegas Convention Center, organizers predict. Show days and hours also have been modified, to 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Wednesday, July 27, through Friday, July 29, and 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, July 30. The show is expected to cover about 420,000 square feet.
"A great deal of research and investigation went into this decision," said Tom Orlando, president of AWFS.
The group's board felt the new location will give the event a greater national and international presence, and surveys have indicated that more exhibitors and attendees would go to a Las Vegas show. Other reasons included the availability of ample lodging and frequent and inexpensive airline flights from many cities, and Nevada's status as a right-to-work state, making it easier for exhibitors to assemble their booths.
Orlando said the new event will be known as AWFS Vegas, pronounced aahfs-Vegas. Information is available online at www.AWFSFair.org.
