Invista will tout Teflon at Showtime
By Susan M. Andrews -- Furniture Today, December 14, 2003
High Point — Invista (formerly DuPont Textiles & Interiors), which has such brands as Lycra, Stainmaster and Teflon, will show the latest Teflon fabric protection during Showtime here next month.
Teflon formulas, designed to have stain-repellant or stain-release properties depending on fabric structure and use, now include Advanced Teflon, a new version that is a "smart material" especially designed for washable textiles. Advanced Teflon offers a dual action that repels stains during use and then also allows stains to be easily released during laundering.
Lisa Pfrommer, who represents Teflon in her position as North American textile effects manager for Invista, said residential furnishings applications for Advanced Teflon will include washable textiles used for removable slipcovers.
Invista says Teflon's brand recognition is more than 98% globally with consumers. In order to carry the Teflon brand and hangtags, fabric has to meet three criteria: Fluorochemical products (Zonyl/Oleophobel) from Ciba Specialty Chemicals must be applied to the fabric; global performance specifications for fabrics treated with Teflon Fabric Protector must be met; and the mill or finisher must sign a licensing agreement for Teflon fabric protector from Invista.
Invista is running television and print ads in North America showing the advantages of Teflon in a variety of home textile and apparel applications and highlighting how the product "can make everyday easy."
The campaign will continue in 2004 and will include tailored promotions with Invista's industry partners Quaker Fabric, Laura Ashley, American Textiles, Louisville Bedding, Pacific Coast Feather, Springs and others.
Koch Inds., parent of polyester supplier KoSa, is buying Invista in a deal to be completed in early 2004.
