Micro*D/Exim offers Internet catalog software

Brian Carroll -- Furniture Today, December 7, 2003

Micro*D/Exim Technologies has rolled out a new suite of software products and services enabling furniture manufacturers and retailers to create, maintain and distribute master product catalogs using the Internet.

Called MPCat, the suite creates catalogs that conform to the Furniture Industry Data Exchange-approved data standards.

Micro*D and Exim Technologies merged in August. Based here, Micro*D produces the popular PreVue electronic product catalog system used by several large furniture manufacturers. Based in Greenville, S.C., Exim offers Internet-enabled products and services for business-to-business electronic document transfers and transactions.

"A standard electronic product catalog is mandatory for the rapid and economical implementation of B2B electronic commerce in the furniture industry," said Manoj Nigam, president of Micro*D since the merger. "Manufacturers' ability to provide accurate and timely product catalog data electonically helps retailers to create and send accurate orders, resulting in faster order-processing and reduced errors."

Offered since 1989, PreVue catalogs contain products ranging from simple, standard case goods and accessories to complex custom upholstery products. All electronic product catalogs that conform to FIDX standards can be displayed using Micro*D's PreVue desktop software and the company's ePreVue Internet services.

The PreVue software also allows users to visualize, configure and price custom orders, create room plans and inventory fabric swatches. And products in FIDX-standard catalogs can be displayed on retailers' and manufacturers' Web sites with ePreVue.

The MPCat suite of products consists of Catalog Manager, Pricing Manager and Distribution Manager modules.

The Catalog Manager module helps manufacturers create and maintain a master product database. Retailers also can use Catalog Manager to produce electronic catalogs for private-label and imported products.

The Pricing Manager module allows users to print and publish customized price lists.

Distribution Manager uses Exim's XM e-commerce platform to distribute catalogs via the Internet. The module also allows manufacturers to control which retailers receive catalogs and which products retailers can view.
