Purcell loses five companies

Hickory, N.C. — High-end decorative textile supplier Purcell International Group is reorganizing to incorporate its former Global Textile Group, following the pullout from the Purcell group of five offshore mills, which intend to serve the U.S. market directly.
Purcell International now represents Spandauer Velours of Germany and Ragolle of Belgium, both formerly represented by Global Textile Group. Purcell also has become the U.S. distributor for Certaldese of Italy, a producer of high-end woven leather fabrics and leather floor tiles.
The mills no longer represented by Purcell are Algemene and Bruvatex-Sagaert & Speyer, both of Belgium, Penelope of Turkey, Zensilk of India and Decoviz of Portugal. The five will be represented by a group of U.S. sales agents, with a sales office in New Jersey and perhaps joint showrooms in New York and High Point, said Algemene's Luc Callens, speaking for the group.
"We believe this new marketing approach will allow us to be more price competitive and will shorten response times," Callens said.
The pullout of the five mills was a surprise, said Andrew Purcell, owner and president of the 20-year-old importing specialist founded by his father, Harold, and former partner Mel Letchinger.
Purcell said he expects to expand his fabric resource soon.
In sales, Jerry Rheiner continues with Purcell International in metro New York, Kirk Brandt and Allen Brandt cover the Southwest, Charles Cramer the West Coast, and Lee Belmore and Purcell the Southeast.
