Sarasota, Fla. — Stanley Furniture Chairman Albert Prillaman received this year's American Furniture Manufacturers Assn. Distinguished Service Award.
"He entered the industry at the ground floor and ascended through the ranks based purely on his ability and tenacity," said La-Z-Boy Chairman Pat Norton, who presented the award.
Norton cited Prillaman's tenure as AFMA president in 2001 and his efforts to build consumer interest in home furnishings through the association's "landmark public relations committee." Norton also said the Stanley chairman led by example and coached his employees toward continuous improvement.
Prillaman was president of Stanley from 1983 to 2001 and chief executive officer from 1985 until last December. He has been chairman since 1998.
Earlier, the association named Rob Spilman, president and CEO of Bassett Furniture Inds., as its president, succeeding Steve Kincaid, president of Kincaid Furniture and La-Z-Boy Case Goods Group, who moves to chairman.
Rob Sligh, chairman and CEO of Sligh Furniture, was elected first vice president, and Robert Maricich, president and CEO of Century Furniture, was named second vice president.
