Govt. extends deadlines on questionnaires
By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, November 23, 2003
Washington — The Department of Commerce and the International Trade Commission have extended deadlines for the industry to turn in questionnaires related to an investigation of wood bedroom furniture imports from China.
But the ITC still held its first public hearing on the matter last Friday.
The Commerce Department has invoked an extension that gives it until Dec. 10 to determine whether there is sufficient industry support for the antidumping petition filed by 27 U.S. manufacturers. The petition claims the Chinese are dumping wood bedroom furniture in the United States at unreasonably low prices, and seeks duties ranging from 158% to 441% on the product.
Responses from a Department of Commerce poll of U.S. manufacturers are now due back Nov. 26. The ITC, meanwhile, has given the industry until Thursday to return a separate, more detailed questionnaire, extending the deadline from Nov. 17.
