Sleep Doctor Breus will discuss sleep-weight link at conference

David Perry, Executive editor -- Furniture Today, April 20, 2009

We are proud to announce a new miracle weight-loss program. Just by sleeping more, the pounds will melt away as your quality of life improves. You will feel better and look better, too.

This all sounds too good to be true, but it is true. Leading researchers have discovered a link between getting enough sleep and losing weight. And we've got a nationally recognized sleep expert to talk about this fascinating research at our upcoming Bedding Conference.

Noted sleep doctor Michael Breus, who has appeared on “The Oprah Winfrey Show” and has been interviewed hundreds of times in the media, will share some of the startling facts about sleep and weight loss in his address at the Bedding Conference, set for May 5-7 at the Hyatt Regency Coconut Point in Bonita Springs, Fla.

Breus has captured the nation's attention with his insights. He recently collaborated with “Glamour” magazine to design improved sleeping programs for seven readers who wanted to lose weight. The results were touted on the cover of Glamour's March issue: “Lose 10 pounds just by sleeping more. This is not a joke! Our testers did it, you can too.”

Breus talks about the sleep-weight loss connection in “Beauty Sleep,” a bestselling book subtitled: “Look younger, lose weight, and feel great through better sleep.”

In addition to having a powerful message, one that our industry desperately needs to take to heart, Breus is an excellent speaker. His talk, set for the morning of May 6, promises to be one of the highlights of the Bedding Conference. Industry supplier Carpenter is sponsoring his presentation.

We've got a retail-oriented agenda set for the conference and it's not too late to register, which you can do at our Web site, www.furnituretoday.com. Look for the Bedding Conference icon just beneath the navigation bar. Or you can call Angie Moorefield of our staff at (336) 605-1063, or e-mail her at amoorefield@reedbusiness.com.

Our keynote speaker is Mattress Firm President Steve Stagner, one of the good guys of our industry, and one of its most professional retailers. We can all learn a lot from the Mattress Firm story.

We also have an interesting “Ask the Experts” panel scheduled. Panelists will include Jimmy Bush of Hickory Springs; Gerry Borreggine of Therapedic; Keith Koenig of City Furniture; David Evans, the former Sealy executive who now heads his own consulting firm, Evmark Partners; and Ed Lilly of Lilly Management Group.

We've got some challenging questions ready to pose to those panelists. What questions would you like us to ask? Just let me know.

This fourth edition of our Bedding Conference is shaping up as our strongest event to date. Don't miss it.
