Dilworth to lead Durham revival as president, CEO
Michael J. Knell -- Furniture Today, April 20, 2009
DURHAM, Ontario — Industry and company veteran Gord Dilworth has been named president and CEO of solid wood bedroom specialist Durham Furniture Inc.
His appointment is part of the company's restructuring plan put in place as Durham has recapitalized and secured new long-term financing. Those moves paved the way for Durham to exit court-ordered protection under the Companies' Creditors Arrangement Act, Canada's equivalent of the U.S. Chapter 11, earlier this month.
Dilworth succeeds Michael Pitman, who was president and CEO when Durham sought protection in January 2008. Dilworth and chief operating officer Wayne Brohman were part of Durham's senior management during the protection period. Brohman will stay on as COO, while Ed Fritz will continue as director of sales and marketing for North America.
Dilworth joined Durham in December 2005 as vice president of manufacturing. Previously, he was a manufacturing executive at Stack-a-Shelf, Kroehler Furniture, Deilcraft Furniture, Andrew Malcolm Furniture and Sklar Peppler.
As Durham's production chief, Dilworth has been instrumental in the company's return to profitability through the implementation of lean manufacturing.
“I am proud to be chosen for this position,” he said. “We are all very excited about the opportunities that lay ahead for Durham Furniture.”
In a statement, Durham's board of directors said that Dilworth “has demonstrated the ability to work in all functional areas of the company and with all employees and his leadership capacity combined with a strong operational background will help lead the company forward.”
Dilworth said Durham will continue to be a solid wood bedroom specialist. At this month's High Point Market, it will take a larger showroom in the Atrium Furniture Mall to showcase a major introduction of new programs and products for retailers in Canada and the United States.
