Troy, N.C. — Rug resource Capel Inc. has acquired the inventory of Mastercraft Imports and named Norm Sweeters, president of Mastercraft,as managing director of imports for Capel, effective Nov. 17.
Mastercraft specializes in high-end machine-made rugs from Belgium and England. Capel will incorporate the four Mastercraft collections into its direct import and open-stock programs. The rugs will be serviced from Capel's Charleston, S.C., distribution facility.
In his new post, Sweeters will assume some of the duties formerly held by the late Smith Capel, who was director of imports and overseas business.
Sweeters has been president of Mastercraft since October 1994. Earlier, he was associated for 22 years with Pande Cameron, an importer of Oriental rugs that was owned at that time by the Sweeters and Hodges families.
Capel's line includes felt, braided, woven, machine-made, loop-hooked, hand-tufted and hand-knotted rugs.
