The company is showing the new Leggett & Platt Retail Solution in its showroom here in the International Home Furnishings Center, C-603. The concept emphasizes the power of selling the benefits of sleep with a new retail display system and new sleep accessories.

Introduced by L&P's Consumer Products Group, the patent-pending Retail Solution gives retailers the tools they need to effectively engage and assist their customers in selecting sleep accessories, ranging from adjustable bed bases to pillows, and from ornamental beds to mattress and pillow protectors, L&P officials said.

The program includes point-of-purchase display systems and signage, marketing materials, sales aids and training, and performance management systems.

It also includes a new branding initiative - the Leggett & Platt Home Collection, which brings the company's pillows, sheet sets and mattress and pillow protectors under a common umbrella.

L&P has been testing the program at four Bedzzz Express stores in Birmingham, Ala., where the new concept is off to an encouraging start, officials said.

The retail display system puts all of the L&P Home Collection accessories in two units that flank a sleep set, a compact way to organize and display the products, officials said.

"By offering these unique tools and products in a comprehensive package, we can help the retailer sell the benefits of better sleep," said Rob Woods, president of the L&P Consumer Products Group. "Dealers who take advantage of our Retail Solution will increase their revenues with the sale of additional bedding accessories, while simultaneously improving the experience for the customer."

Herman Tam, group vice president of sales and marketing for the Consumer Products Group, said the accessories will help consumers sleep well and live better. The offering includes MircoPlush mattress and pillow protectors, high thread-count sheet sets, and a range of pillows for back, stomach and side sleepers.

"The Leggett & Platt Home Collection consists of premium products at affordable prices, something consumers are searching for in this current economic climate," Tam said.

The L&P Retail Solution also includes products from other L&P brands, including Fashion Bed Group and Adjustables by L&P. Bedding support products by L&P are also included.

Tam said the products can give retailers a competitive edge in the bedding accessory category, one that is gaining in importance in the mattress industry as retailers increasingly recognize the revenue-boosting potential it offers.
