BDI has brought the winning design in its 25th Anniversary Student Design Competition to market.
Myriad, a collection by Tim Seward of San Jose State University, is on display in the contemporary furniture source's showroom in the International Home Furnishings Center, D-523.
Students from Kendall College, University of Illinois and San Jose State submitted designs for pieces including audio/visual cabinets and occasional tables.
"We see the purpose of this competition as providing an opportunity for students to develop their design work and to inspire new talent in the furniture industry," said Bill Becker, CEO and design director of BDI.
This week's market coincides with the 25th anniversary of the company's founding in 1984. BDI started with one coffee table design and has grown into a contemporary specialist most noted for its home theater cabinets. Officials say the company now has 25 employees and sells products through 2,000 high-end stores.
In addition to showing Myriad, BDI also is expanding its successful Avion home theater cabinet offerings at this market with the Avion Series II.
The four new models are available in espresso-stained oak or natural-stained cherry. They feature European hardware, quick-release, soft-close hinges, and integrated cable management, including routing pathways and new Velcro enclosures. They fit TVs of 50 to 70 inches and range from $1,395 to $1,995.
