Cindy Crawford Style debuting at JCPenney

By Clint Engel -- Furniture Today, April 25, 2009

A new line of midpriced Cindy Crawford home furnishings coming to JCPenney stores in September includes a small amount of traditional furniture available in select stores.

Less than 10% of the line, called Cindy Crawford Style, will be furniture.

In addition, the brand won't be sold in markets where Crawford's Cindy Crawford Home line — developed with Rooms To Go — is sold. But the Penney line will include goods for all the key rooms of the home from a leather wingback chair (sale price $899) and sofa ($799) to a three-piece queen bedroom group ($599) and a server/buffet ($599).

Kate Parkhouse, spokesperson for the department store chain, said the case goods are developed by in-house designers and imported through its sourcing partners primarily in China. The upholstery, also designed in-house, comes from domestic suppliers she wouldn't name.

Other home goods in the Crawford Style collection will include tabletop, window treatments, top-of bed and bath products from Springs Inds. and area rugs from Mohawk.

"Cindy Crawford Style is an exciting addition to our assortment of home brands," JCPenney President and Chief Merchandising Officer Ken Hicks said in a release. "This brand is another example of our strong commitment to our home business.

JCPenney will introduce the line to the retailer's more than 1,000 stores in September. But a much smaller number of stores will carry the full furniture category. Parkhouse said it will not be offered in markets where other retailers are carrying the Cindy Crawford Home line — with the exception of accent pieces.

Those retailers include Rooms To Go, with stores in the Southeast and Texas; Art Van in Michigan; Raymour & Flanigan, with stores across the Northeast including New York and Philadelphia; The RoomPlace in Chicago and Indianapolis; and R.C. Willey, with stores in Salt Lake City, Las Vegas, Boise, Idaho, and greater Sacramento, Calif.

Parkhouse said about 175 of JCPenney's larger stores sell furniture and of those, probably just under 70 will carry the Crawford furniture.
