Jersey City, N.J. — Internet retailer Home Décor Products has filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy, saying it owes its 20 largest unsecured creditors more than $2.8 million.
The company operates online under various names including homeclick.com, selling furniture and other home furnishings products. However, no furniture industry suppliers were listed among its top creditors, according to court documents filed with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Newark, N.J.
Among the vendors listed on the homeclick site are Standard, Lea, American Drew, Klaussner and Powell.
A court document shows assets of $8.1 million and debts of $9.2 million. Topping the list of unsecured creditors is American Express Tax & Business Services, with a $383,470 claim, and Home Décor President Jon Bernstein, owed $331,250. Internet search engine Google is No. 4 on the list, owed $177,930.
Home Décor had Web sales in 2007 of $83.8 million, according to reports by Internet Retailer.
