Berkeley Springs, W.Va. — Former Highland House executive Tom Staats has joined high-end case goods company Tom Seely Furniture as vice president of marketing and development, a new position.
Staats has responsibility for sales, marketing and product development, plus growth and development of new business. He will be based in Salisbury, N.C.
Tom Seely Furniture, with annual sales of about $14 million, makes hand-crafted case goods in its plant here and sells through about 350 dealers.
"We feel fortunate to have found someone with Tom Staats' experience to help us continue the growth of our company," said Gat Caperton, Tom Seely's president and chief executive officer.
"Tom has a great track record in the furniture industry," he continued. "He is enthusiastic, fun and shares our vision of what makes a great company. He will bring a wealth of knowledge to our relatively young company."
Staats joins Tom Seely Furniture after 12 years with high-end manufacturer Highland House, first as vice president of sales and marketing and later as president, before the company became a subsidiary of Thomasville Furniture. Staats is credited with the successful collections Cotswold Cottage, Rue de Provence and the Harrods Fine Furniture Collection.
Tom Seely Furniture makes a line of solid-wood case goods under the names Tom Seely and Gat Creek.
"I'm very happy to be working with a company that's as progressive as Tom Seely," Staats said.
