New at market: Stationary upholstery

  • Plenty of Zest: Colors continue to be zesty, with base-cloth versions of red, orange and lime becoming the new cover neutrals.

  • Microfibers in Spotlight: Microfibers are the frame's best friend this market, while chenilles take more of a back seat. Manuracturers are also offering new textures to give consumers a different look.

  • Lean and Clean: Overall, this market's offerings are cleaner and leaner, with a lot less frou-frou.

Ashley IHFC H-900

Powering up its $399 price points, adding a new style at $499 in DuraPella and chenille, adding more wood trim groups and adding a large selection of home theater sofas and sectionals.

Bassett IHFC C-1200

Making a big statement in sectionals, with a variety of configurations in 25 colors of Quaker's UltraSoft Suede targeted at $1,299 small way.

Black Bear MS 226

  • The Williams sofa is a rustic/lodge look with tight back, nailhead trim, camelback and hickory log base in Holshof Tannery's Leather Chaps, cushions in reverse suede, in fabric, $1,800, leather, $3,000.

  • Frederick lounge-style chair is rustic/lodge design with tight back, nailhead trim and hickory log base in Anthem's Williamsburg leather cover with hair on cowhide and sherling overlay, $2,000 fabric, $3,500 leather.

  • Tyler accent chair with hair on cowhide, seat of suede leather, antique finish, $1,800.

  • Also introducing fully upholstered and accent seating to broaden style category. Fully upholstered pieces soften or complement hickory items.

Broyhill IHFC C-600

Concentrating on its color story in contemporary, adding more texture to fabrics, and adding tropical-style pieces. Intros include upholstery pieces in European Vintage World collection. A big push will be in Attic Heirlooms with seven new sofas, six chairs in leather.

Clayton Marcus IHFC C-735

Emphasing traditional with lots of shaping, fresh colors and textures, in a variety of fabrics and textures. Also offering a number of other pieces, ranging from a traditional settee to a generously scaled sectional.

Coja HS 207

Slipcover by Coja is a full line of tailored seating in muslin-covered frames with over 400 fabric options, designed to be a "Sofa in a Bag" with the option for a consumer to purchase more than one slipcover for a frame to change the look at will. Sofas in the $899 range.

Comfort Designs IHFC D-729

  • Contemporary sofa and chair with Art Deco legs in Costa Blanca's Melina cover, $1,299.

  • European-styled sectional with low block arm and polished steel legs in SRA's Doro Red cover, $3,200.

  • Art Deco tight-seat, high-back sofa with tapered wood legs, Lady Samira cover, $1,299.

  • Highly styled tight-back, tight-seat contemporary chair, Quaker Velasquez cover, $799.

Craftmaster FP 210

Offering a traditional multi-pillowback sofa with a casual feel in Costa Blanca's Leandra (overall print), Delma (stripe) and Tobago (plain) at $699.

Flexsteel IHFC C-558

Introductions include the Charisma program of 16 accent chairs with covers coordinated to upholstery; Las Cruces, a New West upholstery program with three sofa styles and a leather rocker and other pieces; Corvallis sofa in casual contemporary with raised wood legs in Quaker's Sloan cover and Hoya pillows, $999; new Christopher Lowell slipcover and smaller-scale sofas; and a new contemporary group in 10 colors of Quaker Ultrasoft Suede, $699.

Adding upholstery silhouettes that feature shape and luxurious comfort specifically designed to complement the new American Classics collection of solid-cherry case goods.

Hekman/Woodmark 200 N. Hamilton St.

Woodmark introducing a value-priced program in sofas and chairs in damask. Showing six new sofa and chair frame combinations, and new styles in promotional leather. In addition, repositioning price points and values in its line of accent chairs.

Huntington House 610 W. Green Dr.

New traditional tufted reverse camelback sofa in Peachtree fabric, $849.

Huppe HS 118

Introducing the 4500 collection, six pieces in contemporary with metal legs, Margarita fabric, medium-range pricing.

J.J. Hyde PS 1-613

  • Left- and right-facing chaises that lock together to become a queen bed in Urban Bay collection, Passion Suede-Chestnut cover, $1,299.

  • Bonnie Sue sectional with chaise in Diesel Denim, and a left-facing loveseat with right-facing chaise.

  • Bungalow's kids chairs, including a natural, washable, denim rounded-back slipcover over muslin silhouette, a khaki denim square-back slipcover, and khaki denim square-back slipcover, $219.

  • Running market price promotions on several of its leather and slipcover frames.

Adding Taurus curved contemporary sofa-chaise with high cabriole leg in NuSuede Bone microfiber import, $1,695.

  • Major statement is the 100-piece National Georgraphic collection, of which 20 pieces will be upholstery. In tropical and British Colonial styling. Upholstery pieces emphasize intricate carving on arms and aprons, nailhead trim and leather and fabrics ranging from grass cloth to chenille.

  • Also emphasizing microsuede-covered frames in price points of $699 to $899.

LA-Z-Boy FP 103

Calinda, covered in Tietex's Morgan, is a contemporary sofa with blanket rolled arm, complementary contours in the back cushions and armrests with plump box seat cushions, $799.

Marshfield SMS 1-1202, M-1036

  • Adding a four-cushion homw theater group (sofa/storage ottoman) with semi-attached pillows, nailhead trim, bun feet in leather/fabric combination or all-leather using Americrafts' Bal Harbor Bourbon leather, Marison's Jungle and Mastercraft's Canadian Wilds (print). Also a patented convertible sofa-sleeper and sectional. All-leather theater group with storage ottoman, $4,399.

  • The Bayfield group of natural-finish exposed bark, part of the Woodlands collection, includes matching tables and shelf, sofa, chair and storage ottoman in Main Street's Hudson Cinnamon, $5,199 for sofa, chair and storage ottoman. Also in Woodlands, a new wing chair and ottoman with Chippendale wood base in National Contact Assn.'s Pine Cone Cover, $1,599 for chair and ottoman; and traditional wing chair rocker and ottoman in Mastercraft's Canadian Wilds, also available in leather or leather/fabric combination, $949 for chair.

  • Hogan, a 114-inch conversation sofa with ottoman in Swift's Santa Fe cover, $1,499.

  • Tasha sofa in leather with bow-front rail, loose-back pillow, decorative nailhead trim; also available in fabric.

  • The Clarke lifestyle recliner, with tight back, rolled arm, available in Quaker's Dansk cover or leather, three-way, no handle, $799.

As part of the multi-company National Geographic collection, adding a slipper chair with open-cane-weave body accented with contrasting pole rattan trim and upholstered in leather or fabric; and the China Bay occasional chair in hand-carved wood that resembles bamboo, with open-cane side panels and back and hand-rubbed polished black finish. Also available in leather or fabric.

  • Montauk Sofa with classic Lawson arm, full dressmaker skirt, semiattached boxed back in Bartson's Melody pattern, a traditional floral jacquard with matching chair and ottoman, sofa $899.

  • Emphasizing color in fabric introductions, and unveiling the "Style Expressions" retail gallery program, which includes a wide range of incentives, special service and marketing support.

Several new collections, including a clean contemporary sofa, love seat, chair and ottoman in spirited colors; and a lodge-type collection with lots of beef, roll arm, chenille cover and nailhead trim.

Southern Furniture 205 Model Farm Road

Several groups inspired by antiques appraised on the popular "Antiques Roadshow" PBS television series. The collection will incorporate diverse design influences from the past 150 years. The company also is introducing other collections and adding to its existing assortment.

Style Line FP 411

  • The 7170 sofa is a 98-inch, skirted, two-over-two sofa with two oversized kidney pillows in Quaker's Decatur fabric, with loveseat, chair and ottoman available.

  • The 7470 pillowback sofa features decorative nailheads with matching chair covered in sofa pillow pattern.

  • The 8670 group is a two-over-two skirted frame with welted arm, two-button tufted throws and two ruffled throws against knife-edge, welted-back pillows in Dan River's Spence cover, also available as a sleeper.

Temple 200 N. Hamilton St.

Emphasizing the $1,199 to $1,399 price points and also focusing on marrying covers to frames to hit strong retail price points as well as providing shipping in about four weeks.

Thomasville 401 E. Main St., Thomasville

Focusing on coordinating the size of its upholstery and occasional, while making across-the-board offerings in a number of styles. One new piece will be Lounge Act, a channeled Tuxedo-style sofa in leather and fabric, an addition to the Bogart collection.
