ISPA holding June 17 flammability forum

Alexandria, Va. — The International Sleep Products Assn. is following up on the success of its sold-out SHOPtalk flammability workshops held earlier this year with two new educational forums.
The events are designed to bring timely information on flammability to ISPA members who were unable to attend the workshops, and to provide a refresher class for those who were able to participate.
The first forum kicked off last month, when ISPA made an audio webcast of key portions of the February workshops available. Select audio presentations and accompanying slides from the original workshops are featured. The speakers at those workshops included Gordon Damant, an industry consultant; Dennis Kemp, chairman of the Sleep Products Safety Council's Combustibility Committee; Lynn Morris, former chief of the California Bureau of Home Furnishings; and John McCormack of the Bureau.
The webcast is available on ISPA's Web site: www.sleepproducts.org. Registrants can log on and proceed at their convenience.
The second forum is scheduled for June 17, when a SHOPtalk Audio Conference will be held. This live conference call will be available to individuals and company groups for a discussion about technical aspects of California's new mattress flammability standard and burn test, compliance tips and pitfalls to avoid.
Registrants can take advantage of an open dialogue with SPSC Chairman Al Klancnik of Serta; Margaret Neily, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission's director for combustion and fire sciences; and industry expert Damant.
The conference call is set for 1 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.
ISPA officials hope the forums are well received by the industry.
"ISPA and the SPSC are working to support the industry's commitment to help establish an effective national standard that will improve home safety," said ISPA Chairman Tom LeDuc of Spring Air West. "These two new educational offerings are designed to reach a broad segment of the membership with timely and critical information on developments that will affect all of us. I hope ISPA members take advantage of these unique educational opportunities."
