Hickory, N.C. — Brent G. Kincaid, former president and chief executive officer of Broyhill Furniture Inds., was honored for his more than 41 years service to the furniture industry at the fifth annual Hickory's Heritage Furnishings Festival Aug. 8–10 at Catawba Furniture Mall.
Kincaid, a Caldwell County native and a resident of Lenoir, N.C., began his furniture career with summer jobs at several manufacturers, including Kent Coffey and Drexel Heritage. After college and a stint as a high school teacher, he took a full-time job with Kent Coffey. In 1957, he was recruited by Broyhill, and worked at the company until he retired in 1998.
"The Broyhills believed that employees should learn as many facets of the company as possible," said Kincaid. "I worked in the credit and customer service departments, moved to sales, was sales manager for several years, eventually becoming vice president of purchasing. From there it was on to vice president of operations, executive vice president, then as president and CEO, running the company for seven years."
Kincaid's other community and professional activities included serving on former N.C. Gov. Jim Hunt's board to foster international trade.
"Brent is a vital part of the rich heritage that the festival celebrates, and we are lucky to have him share in this year's event," said Steve Ikerd, president of Ikerd Enterprises and owner of the Catawba Furniture Mall.
