Dubuque, Iowa — Eighteen associates from Flexsteel's Dubuque manufacturing facility raised more than $12,220 to fight cancer, culminating in a 13-hour Relay for Life sponsored by the American Cancer Society.
The relay was the conclusion of a three-month fund-raising effort by the Flexsteel group, which raised money with a series of events including bake sales, raffles and "wear your jeans to work" days.
In mid-May, they held a companywide "parking lot" picnic. Flexsteel's Metal Division built a huge grill for the occasion, which was manned by Flexsteel management. Vendors Unlimited donated food and supplies, while Flexsteel and its vendors donated prizes for a raffle.
"We are so proud of our people for championing this very worthy cause," said Tom Baldwin, a Flexsteel spokesman. "They worked very hard to raise this money."
