Furniture Discovery Center eliminates director's post

By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, August 11, 2003

The Furniture Discovery Center here has eliminated the executive director's position and is re-evaluating its marketing and promotional efforts in the wake of a budget crunch.

Jeff Williams, chairman of FDC's board of directors, said the changes were strictly for budgetary reasons and were not due to dissatisfaction with the work of Janet Flynn, who had been executive director since February 2002.

"Janet did a wonderful job," he said. "We've had to make some pretty tough decisions about what services we can offer."

Williams said the board is working with the High Point Convention and Visitors Bureau to develop new marketing ideas. He hopes to announce those plans in September following the next FDC board meeting.

He said other FDC staff members have absorbed Flynn's former duties.

The FDC, which opened in 1992, offers exhibits on furniture design, styling, marketing and production, as well as historical exhibits on the industry.
