MGM opens in Los Angeles

High Point — MGM Transport, an East Coast company specializing in less-than- truckload pickup and delivery for the furniture industry, has opened a facility in Los Angeles.
Services from the West Coast facility began on July 16, when MGM drivers began making pickups at manufacturers' docks for freight bound for East Coast retailers. Previously, KKW/FTS, a third-party transportation provider, serviced MGM's West Coast accounts.
"No other company offers direct LTL coverage coast to coast," said Michael Caldiero, vice president, sales and marketing, of MGM. "Yet, everyone knows that anytime you work with a third-party provider, you lose some power over the level of quality and service that your customers enjoy."
West Coast manufacturers using MGM now will be able to track their freight online in real-time from the moment an order leaves the dock.
"Essentially, we've eliminated the handoff, and with it, the possibility of a fumble," said Caldiero. "Companies we service on the West Coast will now have complete and immediate visibility in one system."
