Willey growing in Vegas

Salt Lake City — R.C. Willey's winning formula in Las Vegas is fueling the retail giant's plans for a third store in the area, although it's also eyeing new markets.
Currently, the Berkshire Hathaway-owned retailer is looking at locations for a new store, and will "probably be coming out with an announcement in about six months," said Jeff Child, president of the 12-store, three-state chain.
The next location likely will be a new market for R.C. Willey if it's not Las Vegas, Child said, declining to name the markets the company has been investigating.
In May, it soft-opened its second metro Vegas store in the western suburb of Summerlin, a 145,000-square-foot showroom that immediately received a warm reception from consumers. That unit is shaping up to be the retailer's No. 1 or No. 2 store, said Chairman Bill Child, vying with the other Vegas store in Henderson for the top spot.
The latter unit opened in fall 2001 and does over $85 million in annual sales, Jeff Child said.
He would not elaborate on a site for a third Las Vegas unit, although the retailer said last month that north Las Vegas was the area where it needed another store.
