Licensed rug product lines growing
Lissa Wyman -- Furniture Today, March 31, 2003
High Point — High Point has become the major marketing platform for licensed products for the rug business. Several rug vendors are honing their relationships with licensing partners this spring.
Oriental Weavers USA is expanding its presentation of Raymond Waites designs, according to Steve Stultz, senior vice president of sales and marketing. "The new Raymond collection will be closely coordinated with bedding and upholstery fabrics and will retail at $299," he said.
Harounian Rugs International is introducing the Royal Doulton line of hand-tufted rugs, which is based on that company's china patterns.
"We have spent a long time developing this product and we feel it works well as a cross merchandising platform. At $599 retail, it also offers an extremely refined look at a value-oriented price point," said Lee Harounian, an HRI principal.
828 International Trading is introducing its first licensed collection with the Cabana Joe line.
"This will be a true cross-merchandising effort," said John Shepherd, chairman. "Our rugs will be shown in the Lane and California Lighting showrooms, and we'll also be showing some Cabana Joe furniture and lighting products in our own space at the Radisson."
Shepherd hopes the partnership will help drive traffic into 828.
"Rugs are truly accessory items at High Point, and we're well aware that we are not the main event," he said. "Hopefully the partnership will help give our name and product line wider recognition."
