Simmons is MAX award finalist

Atlanta — Simmons has been recognized as a finalist in the 2003 MAX Award competition sponsored by Georgia State University College of Business and The Atlanta Business Chronicle for its Olympic Queen mattress.
The MAX Award, an acronym for Marketing Award for Excellence, is an annual competition that recognizes marketing excellence among Georgia-based companies. More than 40 Georgia-based companies submitted marketing innovations for this year's competition.
The MAX competition is based on three criteria — innovation, marketing and success. In selecting Simmons, the MAX Award judges' comments were: "In an industry not known for innovation, this new product provides the important benefit of more sleeping room without requiring the consumer to buy new bed furniture. It gives consumers a reason to buy a new mattress even though their current mattress is not ready for replacement."
This is the second MAX Award Simmons has won in three years, including the 2001 award for the no-flip Beautyrest line.
In accepting the award, Simmons' Senior Vice President of Marketing Don Hofmann noted: "Our dealers have benefited from Olympic Queen and the ensuing discussion about size as part of the retail sales presentation. We have seen a marked increase in queen and king-size sales, as well as the new Olympic Queen, which translates to a higher average unit selling price for our customers and a better night's sleep for the consumer. That's a win-win for everyone."
