Greensboro, N.C. — CCW Group, a freight logistics company based here, has been acquired by Schenker, a global provider of third-party logistics services.
Richard Falk, who was president and chief executive officer of CCW Group, will continue to run the operation as a division of Schenker. His new title is president and chief operating officer of Schenker-CCW.
CCW works with several furniture manufacturers and importers, including Brownstone, Summerfield and Cerrado, the U.S. distribution arm of Brazilian manufacturer Sierra Furniture. CCW unloads inbound containers and stores product until it is repackaged and shipped to clients.
The acquisition positions CCW to serve the growing number of manufacturers sourcing furniture in Asia. Through Schenker, CCW will broaden its services to include warehousing in Asia, customs house brokerage, freight forwarding, air/sea freight management, and warehousing near the port of Los Angeles.
"On a national level, logistics customers are more and more requiring an integrated global one-stop shop, and industry players from different segments have been rapidly joining forces in recent years via mergers and acquisitions," Falk said.
CCW has 800 employees and 2.78 million square feet of warehousing and manufacturing support facilities in Ohio, Oklahoma, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. Clients include P&G, DuPont and Coty.
Schenker has 35,000 employees in 1,100 locations around the world, including 1,100 employees at 43 locations in the United States. Schenker has almost $6.8 billion a year in revenues from land, sea and air freight and associated logistical services, according to the company's Web site.
