Avon, Mass. — Jordan's Furniture is using FurnishNet's Internet-based e-commerce platform to manage more than 90% of its purchase orders submitted to roughly 130 vendors.
The retailer has been able to eliminate manual processes, paperwork and faxes by embracing business-to-business e-commerce, said Peter Clark, director of information systems for Jordan's.
"With FurnishNet, we've been able to optimize and streamline communications for managing purchase orders and acknowledgements," Clark said. "We also have peace of mind that our orders are accurate, and have better access to information that helps us to better service our customers."
FurnishNet's Transaction Management solution electronically transmits purchase orders, acknowledgements, advance ship notices and invoices. By integrating e-mail, Web applications, electronic data interchange, XML and fax-based processes, FurnishNet says it is able to translate information into the right format for the recipient, regardless of the corporate system in use.
Jordan's worked with FurnishNet to develop the Internet company's Parts Management solution. This solution sends purchase orders for parts directly into a producer's "parts desk" online, and e-mail alerts from the manufacturer provide the retailer with online status notifications.
By automating these processes, customers get parts more quickly, which reduces returns and cancellations, according to Clark.
