Attendance at Toronto rises 5.8%

By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, March 31, 2003

Buyer attendance was up 5.8% at this year's Canadian Home Furnishings Market, according to figures from the Quebec Furniture Manufacturers Assn.

A total of 6,560 retailers representing 3,265 stores attended the four-day January event here, compared with 6,198 buyers representing 3,238 stores in 2002.

Attendance was up from every region of Canada, although international attendance was down slightly from last year. This year, the CHFM attracted 343 buyers from 197 stores from the United States and elsewhere, compared with 370 buyers from 211 stores last year.

In recent years, the QFMA has promoted the show to U.S. buyers, and dealers came from New York, Michigan, New Hampshire, Vermont, California, Oklahoma and Texas.

The overwhelming majority of buyers came from Ontario, with 4,602 buyers representing 2,229 stores. Quebec was second, with 798 buyers from 405 stores.
