Summerlin, Nev. — Forty-year-old home furnishings and accessories retailer Pier 1 Imports opened its 1,000th store here in February.
The 20,137-square-foot store — the chain's largest to date — in this Las Vegas suburb is its sixth large-format store, about twice the size of a regular unit. The store offers larger-scale furniture and other items in addition to Pier 1's typical merchandise assortment. Other large-format stores are located in Dallas, St. Louis, Denver, Southhampton, N.Y., and Houston.
Marvin J. Girouard, Pier 1 chairman and chief executive officer, said, "We opened our first store in Las Vegas 30 years ago, so it is a well-established, strong market for us."
