Dow Chemical hiking prices of polyurethane
By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, March 31, 2003
Midland, Mich. — Dow Chemical cited rising oil prices as among the reasons for another price increase for polyurethane products for applications including furniture components such as foam and upholstery fabric.
Dow did not disclose its percentage increases. Industrywide, prices for polyurethane products have generally risen between 1.7% to 3% since January.
"Oil and energy pricing continue to escalate and our raw material and distribution costs continue to follow this nearly vertical climb," said Richard Beitel, commercial director for Dow, which has annual sales of about $27 billion. "These conditions make Dow's already severe profitability situation more critical, necessitating urgent additional pricing actions."
Dow's polyurethane products are used in rigid and flexible foams, adhesives, sealants, coatings and other applications.
