Brazilian coatings maker opens High Point office, lab
Powell Slaughter -- Furniture Today, March 31, 2003
High Point — Brazilian finishings manufacturer Renner Sayerlack has opened an office and color lab here to offer wood-coatings assistance to U.S. companies sourcing furniture in Brazil and other South American countries.
The São Paulo-based company is not related to Mexican finish supplier Sayer-Lack. Both companies originally belonged to an Italian parent, which later sold a majority interest in both to local management.
Gustavo Lorencini is director of operations for Renner Sayerlack USA and Jeff Topping is U.S. sales manager.
"In the beginning, we'll work as a color lab and design center," Lorencini said. "We'll work with the growing number of U.S. companies doing business with furniture manufacturers in Brazil."
The operation will help U.S. customers design finishes for production in Renner Sayerlack's plants in South America. Lorencini said the main facility in São Paulo produces between 1 million and 1.5 million gallons of wood coatings a month.
The High Point office at 1200-C Corporation Drive already has a color technician and support staff in place. Plans call for a larger facility as business grows and technicians are added. Eventually, the office could serve as a springboard for Renner Sayerlack to sell in the United States.
"First, we need to prove ourselves and get our name out to potential customers," Topping said. "We want to let them know we can help them all over South America and not just Brazil."
Renner Sayerlack works with manufacturers not only in Brazil, but Chile and other growing source countries for furniture. The company employs about 700 people throughout South America, many of whom work in the plants to ensure quality control.
Sayerlack hosted an open house and reception at its office on March 31. A number of representatives from furniture plants in Brazil and Chile were on hand.
