15th annual ICFF set for May 17–20

By Furniture Today Staff -- Furniture Today, March 31, 2003

The 15th annual International Contemporary Furniture Fair will be held in the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center here May 17–20.

Produced by George Little Management, the show will feature more than 400 designers, manufacturers and representative firms displaying products including contemporary furniture, seating, lighting, wall covering, textiles, textiles and accessories for residential and commercial use.

Designs and manufacturers from a variety of countries will be represented, including Brazil, Canada, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Mexico, the Netherlands, Sweden, United States and the United Kingdom. International contingencies, including The British European Design Group, Federiegno-Arredo/Assarredo from Italy and the Royal Danish Consulate General, are expected to attend.

The market covers 110,000 square feet and typically hosts more than 17,000 visitors.

The design magazine Metropolis is the ICFF's domestic sponsor. International sponsors include the publications Abitare, Domus, Frame, Interni, Intramuras and Wallpaper. The American Society of Interior Designers, International Furnishings and Design Assn. and the International Interior Design Assn. provide oversight and approval of entries.

The ICFF also features a series of lectures, seminar and panels. This year's programs include:

  • A talk by Australian design star Mac Newson, sponsored by House & Garden.

  • A presentation by Italy's Federiegno-Arredo/Assarredo on the state of Italian design.

  • A discussion with prize-winning architect Jean Nouvel and a seminar addressing the challenges that young designers face in their quest for success.

  • FutureWork, presented by ASID, with predictions about the directions in which design and the industry are heading.

Also featured will be the presentation of work from top design schools. Each year, a jury of designers reviews the projects submitted and selects several for display. Participating schools this year include Art Center College of Design, Pasadena, Calif.; Parsons School of Design, New School University, New York; Pratt Institute, Brooklyn, New York and Virginia Tech, Blacksburg, Va.
