FIT awards breakfast honors industry leaders

New York — The Fashion Institute of Technology held its seventh annual scholarship awards breakfast on April 1 from 7 to 9 a.m. at the Waldorf-Astoria.
The breakfast supports the college's Home Products Development program.
Those being honored at this year's breakfast were Ian Gittlitz, chief executive officer and president, and Cynthia Evans, senior vice president of the Institute of Corporate Directors Publications, who each received the Humanitarian award.
Bill Kilbride, president of Mohawk Home, received the Industry Leader of the Year award.
David C. Sabin, chairman of Salton, received the Outstanding Achievement award.
Laura Sen, executive vice president of BJ's Wholesale Club, was honored as Retailer of the Year.
The chair of the event was Dr. Leonard Florence of Syratech Corp. Co-chairs were Carl Gold-stein, S. Lichtenberg and Co.; Lester Gribetz, Bloomingdale's; and Peter G. Scotese, chairman emeritus of FIT's board of trustees.
The Fashion Institute of Technology is a college of art and design, business and technology of the State University of New York.
The program in Home Products Development, billed as the only one of its kind in the country, consists of courses in product development, product knowledge and marketing specifically for the home products industry, including furnishings, accessories and textiles.
