Canadian supplier helps memorial fund

Ajax, Ontario — Phoenix AMD International has donated C$15,000 to the Halton Galt Memorial Fund, which will provide ongoing financial support to the families of the four Canadian servicemen killed in last year's friendly fire incident in Afghanistan.
The Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry Assn., a benevolent organization serving retired members of Canada's principal combat infantry regiment and their families, administers the fund.
Phoenix, Canada's largest provider of fabric protection, leather care, mattress pads and linens, extended warranties and similar products to furniture retailers, dedicated a portion of its sales last September to the fund-raising campaign.
"We believe it's important to show the men and women of the Canadian Armed Forces that we care about them and appreciate the sacrifices they make for us," said Albert Marrache, president of Phoenix AMD. "We'd also like to thank our retail partners who made special orders during the month of September to give a boost to the campaign."
The four Canadian soldiers, all members of the Princess Patricia's, were killed during a live fire exercise just outside of Kabul when they were mistakenly bombed by two U.S. Air Force fighter jets.
This isn't the first time Phoenix has undertaken such a fund-raising campaign. After the World Trade Center attacks in September 2001, the company raised US$11,000 for the New York City chapter of the American Red Cross.
