Los Angeles — City and design industry officials gathered here to dedicate the new Furniture & Decorative Arts District in Metro/South Los Angeles.
Anchored by the L.A. Mart showroom complex, the area aims to be a destination for consumers and businesses to shop for furniture and accessories. Its boundaries are the L.A. Mart on the northwest at Broadway and Washington Boulevard, Central Avenue on the east and Florence Avenue on the south.
"This is an excellent example of the business community working together with the city to make Los Angeles a prime destination for anyone involved in the furniture and design industries," said Gerry Seibel, vice president and general manager of the L.A. Mart.
Promotional initiatives are planned to continue to drive the design business to downtown Los Angeles. Signage and banners, marketing, advertising and direct-mail campaigns will be aimed at consumers and business professionals.
Los Angeles Mayor Jim Hahn joined with the L.A. Mart, the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corp. and the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power Economic Development Group to create the district.
"Los Angeles has long been a leader in the design industry, in addition to being a city that attracts innovative business," Hahn said. "Creating the furniture district is a natural step in securing our commitment to furniture manufacturers, businesses and visitors that rely on the economic support of the city."
